Youth Groups

EBJC has youth groups for students in grades 4 through 12. These groups meet each month for events and informal education centered on social action/tikun olam, Israel, Jewish holidays, or simply to socialize with other Jewish youth.

For information about any of these groups, contact Justin Hirsch - Interim Education Director - justinh@ebjc.org.

Chaverim is our program for 4th and 5th graders.

Kadima focuses on 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

USY provides activities and leadership opportunities for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.

See below for more information on each of these groups.

Chaverim

Chaverim is a youth group for the East Brunswick Jewish Center’s fourth and fifth graders designed to incorporate informal Jewish education and a social environment. Events are planned and implemented by teen leaders.

Chaverim has lots to offer our 4th and 5th graders, including new friendships; fun and exciting events relating to holidays, Israel, and social action; and a new way to connect to EBJC.

The group meets in the Youth Lounge once a month on Wednesdays after Kesher. Dinner is served.

Kadima

Kadima is a youth organization for Conservative Jewish kehillot, serving youth in grades 6 through 8. It is a great way for our kids to enjoy social, religious, and social-action oriented activities with other Jewish youth, both in and out of EBJC. Our synagogue is part of the Hagalil Region of New Jersey. There are regular chapter events and frequent regional events.

USY

USY (United Synagogue Youth) is the youth organization for Conservative Jewish high school students. Programming occurs at the chapter, zonal, regional, and international levels to offer teens the opportunity to immerse themselves in social, religious, and social-action oriented activities while forming friendships that will last a lifetime. Our synagogue is part of the Hagalil Region of New Jersey. There are chapter events each month as well as monthly regional events.  EBUSY (East Brunswick USY) elects its own Board of Officers to develop programming and run the activities. Leadership skills are developed under the guidance and support of our USY Advisor, Erin Kaplan. Membership is open to members and non-members of EBJC.EBJC's USY chapter, known as EBUSY, meets about 15 times each year. Our programs are dynamic and ever-changing, including Israel-focused events, religious and holiday programming, Social Action Tikkun Olam (SATO) programming, and social events.  Comprised of teens from several area high schools, we come together for exciting events and to build a supportive community.

Our signature event is our monthly Wednesday event from 7:30-9:00 PM as part of EBJC "Youth Night". Each spring, we host a Saturday Youth Shabbat as well as a Friday night Youth Shabbat. We host a several Sunday afternoon events each year.

Our Youth Advisor, Youth Director, and Spiritual Leader (Rabbi Larry) work closely with our teens to ensure that their programming is safe and successful. Teens must be Jewish, but do not need to belong to EBJC. Teens can pay a flat fee to join our chapter for the year, or can bring $10/program if they are not a chapter member.

EBUSY stands out as a leading chapter in the Hagalil region of USY. In recent years, EBUSY has won awards for its membership/programming initiatives, Israel initiatives, and overall operations. Recent awards have included:
